About
Marissa Lockwood is a private clarinet teacher in Southeast Michigan. A graduate of Oakland University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and minors in chemistry, biology, and music, Marissa furthered her education at Walsh College, earning a master's degree in management. Her passion for music is evident through her active involvement in community ensembles such as the Warren Concert Band, Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble, and various small ensembles. Marissa is also a graduate of Clarkston High School!
She was very involved in Oakland University's music program, taking private lessons and playing in the OU Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Oakland Symphony Orchestra. Marissa teaches private lessons where her students have consistently earned first division metals, and works with several high school marching bands every summer. She has previously played with the Hope College Wind Ensemble, Grand Rapids Symphonic Band, Cornerstone University Wind Ensemble, Calvary Orchestra, Metro-Detroit Youth Symphony, and other community groups.
Marissa's dedication to excellence is underscored by her success in competitions, including victories at the Cornerstone University Concerto Competition (2018), Hope College Featured Soloist Competition (2019), and Oakland University Band Concerto Competition (2020). She served as principal clarinetist for the Michigan Intercollegiate Honors Band in 2018 and 2019, and has participated in events such as the Allstate Band and Orchestra Festival, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, and various honors bands throughout high school.
